last of summer days...

autumn has always been my favorite season but this year i'm trying to put it off as long as possible. how does the summer always go by so fast? i'm dreaming of the beach... can you believe i haven't made it to the oregon coast all summer? well, dx and i are going for a little vacation on thursday/friday {we're sneaking away after labor day... pretty smart, eh?} the weather should be warm enough for a little sunbathing. ah... can't wait.

wedding paper goods

happy tuesday!
i hope everyone had a wonderful holiday weekend! i spent the weekend working, but don't worry: dx and i will be taking a few days vacation later this week. so, let me show you what i was working on...

wedding program fans for my friend, felicity! yes, those are popsicle sticks, i couldn't really think of a more elegant item to use for a handle- they're cute anyway, right? dx had to help me with the engineering of these- to make sure the stick held in place and that the whole thing held together. there's actually a second stick inside, providing structure. and lots of double-stick tape.

i also made these table cards for felicity, with areas in/around los angeles as the table names. the colors and design match her wedding invitations, which i will reveal after her wedding. {soon!}

it's always fun to work on wedding paper items! so....
::ANNOUNCEMENT ::
i will be opening up a second etsy shop, dedicated to wedding invitations and other paper goods. i'm calling it "paper + pinafore". i'll be taking the next few weeks getting the shop set up, so i will definitely announce the opening date soon! hooray!

anatole mouse

i am happy to report that Anatole {i named the mouse Anatole after a children's book character i just saw at the bookstore} successfully made it out of the box and is probably wandering freely about the neighborhood, looking for bits of cheese. that's what i hope, anyway.
i have to admit, part of me was hoping that he would stay put so he could be my pet mouse. but i know he's happier as a wild mouse. *sigh* i'm happy too.

cat + mouse

wow, it's been an emotional day and it's not even half over! i woke up feelin' a little out-of-sorts, you know those days? realizing that my goose-down comforter was actually necessary to keep me warm last night, that summer is on it's way out, that i have loads of work to do today...
i went to go run an errand a couple of hours ago and was almost home when i saw a cat lying down in the middle of the street. aw, cute kitty... wait a second... there's a mouse next to the kitty... and it's not moving much. i snapped a quick pic {i mean, how often do you see a cat and mouse sitting next to eachother in the middle of the street?}

i rushed over to the mousie- he was still alive, but in shock. and naughy kitty was obviously not done playing with it. i shooed kitty away, scooped up the mouse into my camera bag {leaving my nice, new camera unprotected, but hey, it's a cute little mouse} and brought him home. i transferred him to a cardboard box and he actually seemed to perk up a bit and move around.

presently, he and the cardboard box are in a little greenspace behind my apartment. i left a bit of food and some crumpled paper to hide him from predators until he's ready to come out. i'm so nervous! i hope he gets out okay. i'll post an update later... poor 'lil mousie.

for the dollhouse

prepare yourselves. you are about to be attacked by cuteness... i just discovered a whole new world on etsy :: miniatures.
i was just browsing etsy for something new + interesting and was amazed to find a variety of hand-crafted miniatures for dollhouse enthusiasts. and i found some of the cutest darn things i've ever, ever seen. ever. the above image is a "box of french macaroons" by sarah maloney- it's less than one inch wide. {holy cute!}

by petit plat (each piece sold separately). they look so yummy! look at the little doughnuts!!

"fairy bed"by fairy furnishings. aww, i'm imagining some little girl leaving this in the backyard just in case a fairy might need a good night's sleep.

"one plate of sushi" by petit plat. so tiny! {aarrgh, i'm dying of cute!}

"a selection of afternoon teacakes" by sarah maloney... it's only an inch wide!! even the name is cute!! teacakes!!!

"bunny house" by oksaniko. how sweet is this!

i probably shouldn't have shared this because now you are going to click here to link to the etsy miniatures category and spend hours swooning over the adorable little hand-crafted goodness. like i just did. {sorry!}
