happy weekend!

the weather has cooled down a bit in portland, thank goodness! it should be a very nice weekend. i hope you all have a nice one too!

my shop

i've been adding some new lovely products to my shop over the past couple of weeks, so i thought i'd give a little preview of some of my favorites! these are fully lined zipper pouches. it's so fun putting the fabric combinations together- i hope you like them as much as i do!

here are some zipper pouches made with interior design fabric samples- some are upholstery fabrics, some might be draperies. they are all gorgeous! i finished them off with a little vintage button sewn on to each one ::

and here are some of my "love-letter clutches". {dx came up with the name and it was so cute, i just couldn't resist using it.} each one closes with an elastic loop over a vintage button. do you like how i photographed them with a love letter inside? hee hee ::

crafty night

so, my girlfriends and i sometimes have little "crafty nights" where we make crafts and have some drinks, although not a whole lot of crafting goes on sometimes- usually more of the drinking. ;)
but i had to make something. and i forgot to bring a whole bunch of craft supplies, so here is my creation:: the "no-scissors, no-tape crafty flag banner" (just torn paper + string- the fabric banner is a separate piece) ::

i rather like it. it's hanging over my craft table. :)

local artist :: betsy + iya

i first met betsy from betsy + iya last winter at the handmade bazaar here in portland. she was sitting there at her table, pounding away on some new jewlery- i couldn't believe how beautiful her pieces were- all made by hand. just look at this gorgeous stuff::

as a fellow vendor, i always try to say hello to the other artists/craftspeople and see what they are selling. i was looking for a thumb ring at the time and having the hardest time trying to find something to fit my tiny thumbs {my thumbs are freakishly small}. when i saw betsy's table, i'm pretty sure an angel appeared and bird started chirping. or something. i found my ring!

it's perfect- it can expand and contract to fit any of my fingers. and i love the cute little decorative balls on the ends. betsy is just a darling too.

h.o.t.

well, glory be. it doesn't get any hotter than this is portland, oregon. 102 degrees, yikes. and it has just been a weird day all around. i tried to blog earlier from my laptop {i was enjoying some air-conditioned facilities} and everything i typed was converted to hindi. i wasn't sure any of you could read hindi, so i waited until i could access my {non-air conditioned} home pc and realize that the heater, yes the heater, has been turning off and on in my apartment. so, i leave you with this quickie post and i am outta here once again to try and escape the heat! until tomorrow!!

vintage summer dress

this is it! my mother's summer dress, circa 1970's-80's. pink gingham with a ruffled bottom and cinched just below the shoulders. boy, i sure tried to squeeze into that thing, but it just wouldn't zip up...

here's a detail of the front piece- cute eyelet fabric and embroidery! i just had to make it fit! so, i took out a few stitches from the sides, made a few new ones, and....

hooray! it fits! thank goodness there was a little extra fabric at the interior seams. it's a bit of a tight squeeze, but who needs to breathe when you look this cute? {kidding}
summer social, here i come!

summer social

jenny and i are planning to attend an art/craft sale and social this weekend, put on by various portland area artists, including these fabulous designers and bloggers:

abby powell thompson of abby try again
alyson graves of the blog unruly things

i feel so lucky to be a portlander today! i can't wait to meet these gals and gush over their handmade goods. they're going to have a polaroid booth set up- so much fun! oh, and we're going to wear our favorite vintage attire, so i'm going to go see if i can fit into one of my mom's old gingham summer dresses... i'll let you know how it goes, wish me luck!

romper style

if you don't read the fabulous portland fashion blog "urban weeds", than you simply must start. photographed in the sartorialist style, urban weeds captures everyday portlanders at their fashionable best. that's where i spied a photo of a gal in a cute little romper and was suprised to find- after a bit of research- that rompers are becoming quite the trend of late. so i searched around and found some other darlings that i think that maybe i could pull off ::

these are pretty cute! i think i wore rompers when i was a little girl but really haven't thought of them since. the only downside, *ahem*, is when you have to use the ladies room, it's a bit of extra work. but not a bad price to pay for looking adorable.

colours

yes, i know i'm american and we don't spell "colors" that way, but i like the extra "u". it gives a richness to the word, a fullness- like a flower in bloom or a sweet caramel latte with extra foam on top. haha, okay, maybe that's a bit much, but i still prefer to use that spelling, and that's that. so here are some colourful images that i find quite lovely ::

if you've studied graphic design, you may have heard of herb lubalin :: this guy was a graphic art genius. a prominent designer in the mid to late 20th century, he designed typefaces and used these fonts to create amazing graphic images :: simple, yet powerful. here are some of my faves:
